Dune is a sculptural light whose shape is intriguingly amorphous. Designed by Madrid-based Mayice, Dune is a single piece of hand-blown borosilicate glass, enveloping a wood veneer diffuser with a seedpod-like opening on one side. The glass is hand-blown by Eduardo Garuti, an accomplished artisan. With mastery and great dexterity, Garuti is able to reveal the natural beauty found in glass. Dune's distinctive shape is made up of two symmetrical ends, and an irregular, bulb-shaped centre. The wood veneer diffuser houses the lamp's dimmable LED light source, and downward light from the seedpod-like opening is softened by the glass. Each Dune lamp is unique, the beauty found in the imperfection of hand-blown glass, with its almost wabi-sabi quality, ensures Dune is like a piece of art. Indeed, each lamp is signed by the artisan, Eduardo Garuti.

Product Care

Depending on the type of lamp use a feather duster, soft cleaning cloth or damp cloth for cleaning. On our the more delicate shades, made from wood strips, a feather duster or an air blower is preferable. In our more solid shades a damp cloth may be used. Clean only the flat surface of the veneer with the cloth avoiding moisture contact along the edge of the veneer.

By slow breakfast, this linear pendant feels completely normal in the dining area. I specifically wanted the LED version, so this stayed on my short list.

Our space over the table made the most sense once relatives came over for a weekend meal; the space felt much more welcoming. The room needed a minor adjustment around it, which was more about our layout than the light. A few ordinary weekends made me appreciate the choice more than I did on day one. The room feels better for having it there.

Our longer part of the room started feeling different once this linear pendant was in place; my daughter noticed the change before I said anything. The longer it is here, the less I think of it as a new purchase.

We made room for this linear pendant to make the area feel ready for both daily life and guests, and the room feels calmer now. It has been easy to live with on ordinary days. It settled into the room more easily than I expected. It turned out to be one of the more satisfying updates we made.
